About

Aims

The aim of the Business Informatics study programme is to prepare professionals who master systems thinking and engineering sciences; who are able to use, choose, develop, and acquire ICT solutions that enable enterprise development; who can design intra- and inter-organizational information systems; and are capable of participating in corresponding interdisciplinary and international projects.

The program "Business Informatics" is delivered by Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology  (RTU) in cooperation with Riga Business School, IBM, and University at Buffalo. Studies are in English.

Programme graduates will be able to:

  • Model and analyze business processes, enterprise architecture, and information flows.
  • Assess, suggest, implement and use advanced ICT solutions.
  • Align business strategies and the newest developments in ICT.
  • Develop enterprise ICT improvement programs; plan, manage, and lead change management projects.
  • Follow and promote scientific and industrial development of innovative ICT solutions.
  • Motivate and train employees to use the most appropriate ICT solutions.
  • Lead inter-disciplinary teams and international projects.
  • Follow the rules of ethics in business and information systems development.

Business Informatics is about empowering enterprises by utilizing advantages of existing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions, creating and introducing new ICT solutions corresponding to ever-changing needs of the enterprises. The study programme Business Informatics at the Riga Technical University welcomes students who are interested in a systemic, integrated view on business and ICT.

The programme gives an opportunity to acquire good understanding of systems, engineering, and design principles that are helpful in creating, managing, and aligning business and ICT systems. It provides practical knowledge of achieving synergy of knowledge, data, and process management; as well as skills in use of advanced ICT solutions for analytics, decision making and networking. The programme is designed to accommodate students with diverse backgrounds in order to run study process in atmosphere close to real business environment. This helps to practice interpersonal skills that are essential in a Business Informatics careers as well as to share background knowledge in different types of practical assignments.
