History
In June 1994 researchers with a background and interest in systems research and systems design joined together and established the Department of System Theory and Design. The founding members of the Department are:
Since then more researchers and lecturers have joined the Department (see Professors and Lecturers section).
Mission
The main mission of the Department is to prepare professional systems analysts. Students learn to analyze complex systems, and to design, develop and maintain information systems. Students are also prepared to do scientific research on developing methodological tools for systems analysis, development and computerized design. During their studies students acquire knowledge in database and information systems design, as well as extensive knowledge in the development of artificial intelligence systems.
International Cooperation
Department has agreements with Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and University of Pittsburgh in USA about shared realization of doctoral student teaching program.
Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology has agreements with such universities as Ghent University in Belgium, Bremen University of Applied Sciences in Germany, Cranfield University in Great Britain, University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, Genoa University in Italy, and many others.
Agreements with these universities allow participation in international educational and research programmes and projects; exchanges of students and teachers; international cooperation on the faculty, institute, department and individual levels.
